2022 Healthcare Insurance Changes

6 hours Health CE credits

Instructors:  Mike Fergen, MSM, CPCU, CLU

Karen Fergen, CLU

Summary/Objective:

How much does my health insurance cost and what are my choices for health insurance coverage are two key questions that your customers examine annually?  Understanding current health insurance issues and knowing the details of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act are important as you work with consumers in your role as a health insurance professional.  We will look at the key provisions and responsibilities as a consumer plus as a business owner under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

As a person approaches the age of 65, there are some key decisions to consider under Medicare.  What are the key features, benefits, and enrollment provisions under Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D?  What key alerts that a consumer needs to be aware of in 2020?  Having a solid foundation and understanding of these areas will assist your senior customers within your agency.  Healthcare is a key concern for customers as they retire and approach their life expectancy.

A quality question that many prospects and customers may be asked:  When your health changes, what is your plan for assisted living or nursing home care? Most people have not addressed this need even though they may know someone that has experienced the need for long-term care. People are living longer with an average life expectancy of 84 and nearly 50% of people turning age 65 will need some type of long-term care services in their lifetime.  Therefore, Long-Term-Care coverage (LTC) is a very important area to understand all the options for coverage and key items to consider as you assist your customers.

Do you know that someone who is 35 years old has a 50% chance of a disability for 90 days or more which represents nearly 375,000 Americans becoming totally disabled every year?  Disability insurance in many cases is important as life insurance yet very few people have proper short-term and long-term coverage.  We will review key policy benefits and optional riders within disability policies.  Finally, we will explore the ABLE Act and Medical care directives.
