COVID-19 was a protracted era of suffering, a previously unimaginable occurrence, marked by a nearly daily unfolding of ethically challenging circumstances, perhaps ethical quandaries. The insurance industry is always challenged by ethical issues, but a pandemic, by its very definition, is as severe as it gets… It is a health epidemic of global proportions. COVID-19 left a massive swath of deaths, a footprint greater than first predicted even. Do we even know all the fallout yet or is more still to come?
Chronicle the events as you remember them. Was your own moral compass spinning you dizzy with every nightly update? How were the issues the U.S. and the world faced ethical issues? How did society answer the challenges? What are some unique issues that happened in a state like Iowa, that provides much of the world’s food supply? So many daily challenges entailed insurance-related matters right at their very core. We will discuss the health care issues, the issues of the dignity of human life, the leadership issues, the personal responsibility issues, the tax and economic issues, the insurance company claim and solvency issues, and more.
